Sarir Refinery Back to Full Capacity After Major Overhaul
The Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) has successfully completed a major overhaul of the Crude Distillation Unit at the Sarir Refinery. They announced this morning, February 4, 2026, that full operations have now resumed.
Crude oil pumping to the unit started at 10:53 AM, and the refinery gradually returned to the production line after successfully passing a series of rigorous technical tests. The major overhaul was completed on January 21, as planned, and was followed by a comprehensive evaluation phase to ensure that all operational systems were ready.
During the overhaul, the technical teams encountered unexpected challenges along with harsh weather conditions, including severe sandstorms. These factors led to temporary work stoppages to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. However, work ultimately resumed and was completed without any reported incidents.
This achievement reinforces the NOC’s strategy to improve the efficiency of its oil assets.
On this occasion, the Board of Directors of the NOC expresses its deepest appreciation to the dedicated professionals at the Arabian Gulf Oil Company. Their careful planning and commitment to global quality standards have played a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of refining and production operations in the Libyan oil sector.
