BPMC discusses possibility of supplying fuels to Southern Libya

Mr Imad Ben Koura, chairman of the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company (BPMC), a National Oil Corporation (NOC) subsidiary, met a number of mayors from Southern Libyan municipalities on Sunday, April 12, 2020
. They discussed how to deliver fuels to the southern cities and help people access fuels at the official prices.

Since the beginning of the fuel crisis in Southern Libya, from mid-2017, the Brega Oil Marketing Company, with NOC, made arrangements for security in coordination with various military groups.  This was in the areas around the storage tanks in Misurata and up to the storage facilities in Sebha and the various stations in the southern cities. In 2018 convoys of trucks, loaded with millions of litres of fuel, travelled on a regular basis to help serve citizens in the southern region. But after the conflict around Tripoli began last April, the roads were cut off for trucks and there was no longer any security coordination between these military groups, which is the main reason for the interruption of supplies.

“We understand the discontent of citizens living in the southern regions. We also condemn the exploitation of these conditions by some individuals to sell fuels at high prices. These are illegal and immoral acts. We are constantly striving to reach innovative solutions to these problems,” Mr Ben Koura said.

Mr Ben Koura confirmed the availability of fuels in BPMC storage tanks and the company’s full readiness to deliver fuels to the Sebha storage tanks and then to fuel stations, provided there is a minimum level of security, to ensure the safety of drivers.

He added that BPMC’s management relies on cooperation with mayors of the southern municipalities and others to provide appropriate security conditions. BPMC counts on the understanding of local citizens in the south regarding the real causes behind the lack of fuels and people’s constructive cooperation to address them.
