Briefing on the Russian Tanker “Arctic MetaGaz”

* A specialized committee has been formed under the auspices of the Government of National Unity, including all relevant authorities, to handle the crisis with a high national and professional spirit.
* The primary goal was to take the necessary preventive and precautionary measures to limit any potential environmental damage and protect the Libyan coast.
* The committee has begun implementing the first phase of the plan to gain control of the tanker and move it away from the coast.
* The towing and securing of the tanker began Wednesday, March 24, 2025, using three tugboats: Al-Sumaydah (affiliated with the Misrata Free Zone), Zawiya 4 (affiliated with the Zawiya Oil Refining Company), and Al-Irada 5 (affiliated with the Libyan Ports Company – Zuwara branch) to hand it over to the marine tug Mirdif (commissioned by Mellitah Oil & Gas, affiliated with the National Oil Corporation), to tow the tanker away from the Libyan shores and oil platforms.
* The current situation is that there are no leaks from the cargo so far; the environmental situation is completely safe, and there are no indicators of any imminent risks.
* The top priority is to ensure the safety of coastal cities and the protection of marine wealth in the region.
