Conclusion of a Specialized Workshop Assessing the Barqa Plateau’s Oil and Gas Potential
A specialized three-day workshop on assessing the oil and gas potential of the Barqa Plateau and nearby areas in northeastern Libya has concluded today, Thursday, April 16, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt. Held under the auspices of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and organized by the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), the event brought together industry experts to review and evaluate the region’s prospects.
The workshop brought together leading researchers and specialists from international, local, and regional oil companies, in line with the NOC’s efforts to strengthen scientific and technical activity in the energy sector. Through this approach, the NOC encourages its subsidiaries and research centers to host specialized events that support the development of exploration operations. The Barqa Plateau is widely regarded as one of the most promising geological areas, and is expected to play a major role in increasing national reserves and helping ensure the long-term sustainability of Libya’s oil sector.
The workshop sessions featured the presentation and discussion of a number of valuable research papers and scientific studies. The event attracted broad participation from leading experts in exploration and geology, as well as local and international specialists, and representatives from global companies and research centers.
