Enhanced security crucial for production stability, say NOC security personnel
Industrial security directors of National Oil Corporation (NOC) held a two-day meeting at the headquarters of the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) in Benghazi between March 5-6, 2019, to discuss modernisation of oil sector security infrastructure – organising a series of workshops on risk assessment, technology adoption and case studies regarding protection and security.
Mr Khaled Bukhtwa, general manager of NOC’s General Department of Safety, Environment, Security and Sustainable Development, opened the meeting by underlining the importance of best practice implementation and investment in industrial security technology in order to maximise production. Attendees discussed operational security upgrades post-Sharara and the need for enhanced perimeter security at key sites to prevent unauthorised entry and possible disruption to production.
Mr Bukhtwa stressed the importance of such meetings to improve staff performance, standardise security procedures, and enhance cross-company cooperation. Bukhtwa further emphasized the need for regular professional site security assessments to ensure that all energy infrastructure is protected.
Industrial security officials from national and international oil company partners attended the forum, independent subject-matter experts, as well as representatives of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG).
Mr Bukhtwa expressed NOC’s gratitude to AGOCO and the chairman of its management committee, Mr Mohamed Ben Shatwan, as well as management committee member Mr Ashraf Alabbar for their hospitality.
