NOC and GECOL Discuss Boosting Power Supply Stability to Oil Fields
A coordination meeting was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the National Oil Corporation (NOC) headquarters in Tripoli with the Permanent Committee on Energy and Electrical Interconnection Projects. The committee includes experts from the NOC, the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), and several operating companies, including Arabian Gulf, Waha, Akakus, Mellitah, Zueitina, and Mabruk.
Participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation on connecting discovered but undeveloped oil fields to the electricity grid. They also addressed recurring power outages at fields affected by grid instability, which have made it harder to meet daily and monthly production targets.
Discussions focused on fast-tracking electrical interconnection work at several oil fields. Participants also considered short- and long-term plans to connect fields to nearby GECOL networks, guided by technical and engineering studies. The aim is to provide a more reliable power supply and increase oil production.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain coordination and meet regularly to track implementation of the plans and programs, assess progress, and measure results. The efforts are intended to serve the public interest, boost oil production, and improve the reliability of electricity supplies.
