NOC discusses fuels supply to southern regions
National Oil Corporation (NOC) chairman Eng. Mustafa Sanalla met with 14 mayors of the southern regions on Thursday April 9, 2020, at NOC’s Tripoli headquarters.
The meeting discussed the challenges facing NOC and Brega Petroleum Marketing Company (BPMC) in providing fuels to the southern regions and the need to find an appropriate mechanism to ensure continuous fuels supply to the South in light of the deteriorating security conditions.
NOC chairman, Eng. Mustafa Sanalla said: “Since the beginning of the fuel crisis in the Libyan south in mid-2017, BPMC, with continuous follow-up from the NOC, made arrangements for security coordination with the various military groups in areas along the route from the warehouses in Misurata to the various stations in the southern cities. Therefore, BPMC started in 2018 to send convoys of fuel trucks loaded with millions of litres of fuel to the southern regions; on a regular basis, to alleviate the suffering of the citizens. But after the war started in Tripoli last April, the roads were cut off, and there was no longer any security coordination for truck transports, which is the main reason for the interruption of supplies.”
“Quantities of fuels were provided from the BPMC depots in the Eastern Region, but without any substantial results.” added the chairman.
It was also agreed to hold a meeting next week that will involve BPMC and the mayors of municipalities in reaching an urgent solution in terms of security coordination to ensure the safety of drivers and to secure roads, guaranteeing the resumption of fuel supplies to various cities and villages in the south.
The meeting was attended by Mr Mukhtar Abdedayem, Head of NOC Sustainable Development Department, Mr Abdul Hamid Al-Shtiwi, member of the General Secretariat of the Local Council, Mr Abdul Sattar Al-Senussi, Mayor of Al-Ghuraifa Municipality, Mr Abdul Rahman Mohammed, Mayor of Wadi Etba Municipality, and Mr Al-Jilani Ali, Mayor of the Municipality Brak Al-Shati, Mr Ashraf Khalifa, Mayor of Bint Bayah Municipality, Mr Ibrahim Al-Ghoul, Mayor of Edri Al-Shati Municipality, Mr Majdi Abu Khuzam, Mayor of Al-Qardhah Al-Shati Municipality, Mr Ali Okasha, Mayor of Wadi Al-Bawanis Municipality, Mr Aliten Al-Salhab acting member of the Obari municipal council, Mr Ali Al-Taher, Mayor of Murzuq Municipality, Mr Mustafa Abdul Rahman, Mayor of Muradah Municipality, Mr. Hussein Shakky, Mayor of Rebyana Municipality, Mr Qumani Mohammad, Mayor of Ghat Municipality, and Mr. Saeed Ghrighno, acting Mayor of Al-Jufra Municipality.
