NOC Maps Out Future Gas Project Strategy in Key Workshop
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) held a workshop on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Corinthia Hotel’s conference hall to discuss its strategic vision for developing gas projects in Libya. This workshop is part of the NOC’s ongoing efforts to enhance gas production and increase the production capacity of its fields.
In his opening remarks, NOC Chairman Engineer Masoud Suleman outlined the NOC’s vision to harness gas resources in order to meet the increasing domestic energy demand while also exporting any surplus. He emphasized that this strategy will help stabilize the electricity grid, create new investment and development opportunities, and enhance Libya’s standing as a reliable energy supplier in the region. Suleman also mentioned that to achieve these goals, it’s essential to evaluate the current status of gas projects, explore potential expansion opportunities, and address existing challenges. The workshop will discuss all these topics.
Engineer Suleman emphasized the importance of this event, particularly given the growing role of natural gas as a key driver of energy security. He praised the strong turnout, noting that it highlights the significance of this sector, which represents the future of energy in Libya. He pointed out that natural gas is a crucial pillar of the national economy and plays a key role in electricity generation and manufacturing industries.
The workshop also focused on the importance of developing a strategic vision for gas projects in Libya. He highlighted that the NOC is pursuing several significant initiatives to boost natural gas production, including collaborations with foreign partners. Most of these projects are expected to gradually come online starting in early 2028.
Directors from the Exploration and Production, Reserves Development, Projects, and Natural Gas Management departments shared technical proposals outlining their plans to help the NOC achieve its objectives for promoting Libya’s natural gas production.
Over the course of two days, officials from the NOC and oil companies will review strategic plans designed to boost gas production. They will also discuss initiatives to reduce emissions and enhance operational efficiency through practical projects developed in collaboration with international partners.
The workshop examined, during its sessions, the efforts of various companies to adopt best practices and technologies aimed at utilizing associated gas from oil operations. The goal is to convert this gas into a reliable energy source to support the national electricity grid, rather than losing it through flaring. It also evaluated key projects that have been implemented and completed in the development of gas fields, discussing their completion rates and the timeline for future projects aimed at increasing gas production to meet growing demand for power generation and export any surplus.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, a member of the NOC’s Board of Directors, along with several heads of committees from oil companies, department directors, and experts and specialists from both the NOC and its partner companies.
