On the 64th Anniversary of the First Oil Shipment, Engineer Masoud Suleman Highlights the NOC’s Pioneering Role and Commitment to Transparency

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) commemorated the 64th anniversary of its first crude oil shipment today, Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the headquarters of the Sirte Oil and Gas Company. This historic shipment, which took place in 1961, marked the export of crude oil from the Brega oil port to Genoa, Italy. The celebration was attended by the Chairman and members of the NOC’s Board of Directors, various department directors, heads of management committees from the NOC’s subsidiaries and affiliates, as well as other representatives.

In a speech at the event, Engineer Masoud Suleman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NOC, highlighted that this anniversary holds a special significance for all Libyans. He noted that it represents the true beginning of a national journey that sparked an economic renaissance. It transformed the country and created new opportunities for development and stability. Suleman emphasized that this historic day marked a pivotal moment in Libya’s history by demonstrating to the world that the Libyan people are capable of harnessing their wealth and building their future through their own efforts and determination.

He also praised the dedication and efforts of Libyan oil sector employees in their various roles, referring to them as the unsung heroes who keep this vital industry thriving with production and commitment. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to each one of them by acknowledging the contributions of both national and foreign companies in enhancing field development, boosting production efficiency, and localizing expertise within the country.

 

Engineer Masoud Suleiman reiterated the National Oil Corporation’s commitment to its independence, transparency, impartiality, and responsibility, placing Libya’s interests above all else. He emphasized that the Corporation continues to work with all seriousness and determination to build a strong, advanced, and sustainable sector that achieves development and serves all citizens across beloved Libya.

To mark this occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Directors announced several projects at Sirte Oil and Gas Company. These initiatives include the expansion of the Abu Dhar Al-Ghafari Mosque, modernization of the control and electrical systems at the Marsa el Brega Refinery, and the installation of a main power distribution station. Additional projects involve constructing a drilling materials warehouse at the Allaheeb field, maintenance workshops, administrative offices, a planning department building, a recreational facility, a 128-bed bachelor housing project, and renovations to the company’s Ashati Restaurant and Café. He also initiated operations at the Al-Khair South Field, the second phase of the Al-Khair Field, and the company’s new media center.

The commemoration, attended by a large number of sector employees from various companies and fields, included visual presentations showcasing decades of work and dedication at Sirte Oil and Gas Company. These presentations highlighted the significant achievements made throughout that journey.
