The National Oil Corporation (NOC) carried out a full assessment and inspection of a fire that occurred on the 19th of May at dawn at the second ammonia plant in Brega

The Manager of Health, Safety and the Environment Department at the NOC, Mr.Khaled Abu Khatwa, was accompanied by the Executive Director of the Ex-Libyan-Norwegian Company Dr. Awad Saber, and the Supervisor of fire services for the Sirte Oil Company, Mr. Mustafa Mousa while carrying out a full inspection of the site of the fire. The fire broke out in the vicinity of the thermal extraction boiler at the second ammonia plant, and the Operations Coordinator along with other specialists were also on site at the second ammonia plant.
During the inspection, all damage caused by the fire was examined, any causes that led to the accident were discussed, and all corrective measures were taken to assure the safe return of staff and equipment to work while minimizing the chance of any future similar incidents.
Mr.Khaled Abu Khatwa stated that the response by the firefighters of the Sirte Oil Company was in record time, adding that they performed a highly professional job.
Abu Khatwa also stated that specialists working at the plant dealt with the event with high professionalism and experience resulting in a significant drop in the level of damage to the plant.
Abu Khatwa added that the corrective actions that are currently being undertaken are convincing and professional, and that he has personally emphasized the need to conduct the risk assessment in the correct technical manner as well as implementing any corrective actions needed that result from the assessment.
