NOC is gearing up to drill its first deepwater exploration well in the Sirte Basin offshore.
On Thursday, December 5, 2025, the NOC’s Exploration and Drilling Departments held a preparatory meeting with officials from the consortium of Eni, BP, and the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) to discuss plans for drilling Libya’s first deepwater exploration well. Representatives from major international service companies were also in attendance.
The meeting, held at the NOC headquarters in Tripoli, focused on the operational details and implementation steps for the exploration well, which is set to begin drilling in January. This well, the first of its type in Libya’s deep waters, will reach a depth of about 1,900 meters in offshore Block 38/3, located 170 kilometers from the Libyan coast.
The meeting included a review of operational scenarios and readiness requirements, along with an assessment of the capabilities of the participating service companies to ensure that the work is conducted according to the highest technical and safety standards.
