Sirte Oil Showcases Next-Gen Artificial Lift at NOC-Sponsored Workshop

Sirte Oil Company for Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas organized a specialized workshop titled “ESP Lease Contract Model,” sponsored by the Production Department of the National Oil Corporation. The event drew broad participation from leading international and local companies operating in the oil and energy services sector.

The workshop was attended by representatives from several specialized companies, including SLB, Baker Hughes, ESP-MENA, Alkhorayef, Alfan Oil & Gas Services, and AL Ain Group. They delivered technical demonstrations of the latest artificial lift technologies, along with operational and contractual models designed to improve performance, boost efficiency, and reduce operating costs.

The wide participation in this workshop reflected a growing interest in developing practical solutions to the challenges facing the operation of ESP systems in oil fields, particularly those related to operational reliability, improving production rates, extending equipment lifespan, and enhancing the integration of technical and economic aspects in project management.

The broad participation in the workshop reflected a growing interest in developing practical solutions to the challenges of operating ESP systems in oil fields, particularly those related to operational reliability, increasing production rates, extending equipment lifespan, and strengthening the integration of technical and economic considerations in project management.

To support the development of modern operating models for artificial lift systems, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) directed Sirte Oil Company to launch a pilot project for leasing electric submersible pumps (ESPs). The new operating model is designed to shift from traditional equipment ownership to a performance-based leasing approach.

This approach relies on providing integrated operating solutions that include the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of ESPs by the supplying companies, with operating costs linked to performance and productivity. This will reduce the company’s capital burden, improve asset management flexibility, and enhance its responsiveness to operational changes in the fields.

The lease model also allows for testing multiple technologies from different suppliers in a real-world operating environment. This facilitates the selection of the most efficient and suitable solutions for the nature of Libyan oil reservoirs, while also promoting the transfer of technical knowledge and building the capacity of national personnel in managing and operating these advanced systems.

The event was attended by a delegation from the NOC’s Production Department, along with relevant departments from Sirte Oil Company. Participants reviewed a range of technical and operational perspectives and exchanged expertise on global best practices for the operation and maintenance of artificial lift systems, with a focus on tailoring them to the geological and operational conditions of Libyan oil fields.

The workshop featured in-depth discussion sessions on the key challenges involved in implementing and operating ESP systems, including performance stability in harsh environments, fault management, and improving energy efficiency. Participants stressed the need to develop more flexible, performance-driven operating models that support continuous production with higher efficiency.

This workshop aligns with the NOC and Sirte Oil Company’s vision to strengthen knowledge transfer, expand cooperation with international companies, and develop modern contractual models based on performance and efficiency. This will help improve the economic viability of artificial lift projects and support sustainable production.
