Tripoli Consultative Workshop on Methane Reduction and Sustainable Energy Concludes

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has wrapped up its two-day consultative workshop on “Managing and Reducing Methane Emissions and Environmental Sustainability” in Tripoli. The event was organized under the auspices of NOC’s General Department of Health, Safety, Environment, Industrial Security, Renewable Energy, and Quality, in partnership with the European Union Delegation and the International Methane Monitoring Centre (IMMC). IMMC is a UNEP initiative.

On the final day, participants held panel discussions and delivered presentations on oil spill response mechanisms, renewable energy projects, and the adoption of best global practices for monitoring and controlling emissions, in line with the requirements of the Oil and Gas Methane Reduction Program (OGMP 2.0).

The workshop concluded with the development of practical recommendations and next-step actions to improve environmental transparency and modernize the oil and gas sector’s infrastructure. The measures are intended to support Libya’s efforts to reduce gas flaring and protect the climate.

At the end of the workshop, participants and international experts praised the event as an effective platform for dialogue. They also commended the NOC for its continued efforts to support environmental sustainability and help shape the future of the energy sector.
