National Oil Corporation Commemorates World Metrology Day 2026
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) marked World Metrology Day on May 20, an annual observance that commemorates the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875. The agreement helped establish the global basis for modern measurement systems, supporting the unification of standards and measurements worldwide.
The NOC emphasizes the strategic role of measurement, calibration, and inspection across the oil and gas sector. It also highlights the oversight responsibilities of the General Directorate of Inspection and Measurement in monitoring the movement of hydrocarbon materials, including crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and petrochemicals.
This involves verifying and documenting quantities produced, exported, and stored through a precise technical and statistical system, helping protect the rights of the Libyan state and strengthening the accuracy and reliability of operational and commercial data.
Through its General Department of Inspection and Measurement, NOC continues to support the development and modernization of measurement systems in onshore and offshore oil fields and ports, in line with the Libyan Measurement Manual and approved international standards and specifications. This includes rolling out a phased plan to certify these systems and improve their operational efficiency.
NOC commends the cooperation and commitment shown by the oil companies operating in the fields and ports, as well as their adherence to approved technical procedures and controls. This helps improve the accuracy of operational processes and supports reliable measurement practices across the sector.
On this occasion, Eng. Masoud Suleman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NOC, extends his sincere appreciation to all measurement inspectors, technicians, and staff working in measurement, calibration, and inspection. Their efforts and technical contributions help support the oil and gas sector and uphold the principles of accuracy, quality, and compliance with international standards.
