Mellitah Fires Up New Gas Compressors on Sabratha Platform
The specialized technical teams at the Mellitah Oil and Gas Company have completed the connection and commissioning of new gas compressors on the Sabratha gas platform. This work was carried out under a comprehensive plan developed and implemented to the highest technical and operational standards, in coordination with the relevant departments of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), and with direct follow-up and support from the Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors.
During this operation, the technical teams successfully shut down and restarted the gas wells and connected them to the new compressors in record time, under 30 hours. This achievement highlights the high efficiency and advanced technical expertise of the national workforce, as well as their ability to maintain continuity of supplies and ensure that the quantities of natural gas allocated to power generation plants were not affected throughout the implementation period.
The installation of the new compressors forms part of a project to maintain reservoir pressure, and helping to extend the field’s productive life. It also improves gas extraction efficiency, and increases production rates.
The new compressors are expected to boost production by approximately 28 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually and to increase condensate output by about 360,000 barrels per year. This will strengthen the field’s production capacity and support the long-term sustainability of its resources.
The project involved putting in place all necessary operational and technical arrangements and procedures to ensure the safety and stability of the system throughout every phase of implementation. This will help increase gas production volumes and improve operational efficiency.
The resulting production increases were routed to the Mellitah–Misrata coastal pipeline, supporting gas supplies to power plants. This helps maintain operational pressures and required volumes, ensuring the stability and long-term sustainability of gas deliveries to a range of consumers.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors extends his sincere thanks and appreciation to the operating management committee and to all technical, operational, and administrative teams who contributed to the successful completion of this important project. It reflects the highest levels of professionalism, cooperation, and coordination among all the participating entities.
